Get Your Workout In At Home Thanks To Online Streaming Fitness Classes

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn

How busy is your schedule from day to day? Can’t seem to find the time or energy to make it to the gym? We understand that life can be hectic. It’s hard to justify taking time out of your day to drive to your local gym and work out for 45 minutes to an hour, especially if you’re just now deciding that you want to improve you health.

There is one convenient solution, however. We recently read a feature on CNN.com that describes a few websites that are now offering streaming online fitness classes for people to participate in from the comfort of their very own home.

The author of the article wrote about a few sites that have been popping up recently that offer the unique service to subscribers.

Here’s a brief description from one of the online fitness site that was featured in the article:

“EMG Live Fitness (www.emglivefitness.com) is an online fitness studio and platform/website where the most sought after fitness instructors are linked with the fitness enthusiast while not actually being in the same physical location. EMG Live Fitness is a technological breakthrough for the fitness industry.  The evolution of Live Streaming has made it possible for EMG to bring the most sought after instructors virtually out of their studios and live to any town, city or borough in the country, or world” (Source).

Binge Drinking Is Dangerous

We’d like to take the opportunity to remind you about the dangers and consequences of binge drinking. According to the CDC:

“New estimates show that binge drinking* is a bigger problem than previously thought. More than 38 million US adults binge drink, about 4 times a month, and the largest number of drinks per binge is on average 8. This behavior greatly increases the chances of getting hurt or hurting others due to car crashes, violence, and suicide. Drinking too much, including binge drinking, causes 80,000 deaths in the US each year and, in 2006 cost the economy $223.5 billion. Binge drinking is a problem in all states, even in states with fewer binge drinkers, because they are binging more often and in larger amounts” (Source).

Here’s some advice from the article for you on how to stop binge drinking:

  • Ultimately, it’s important to make the decision to stop binge drinking. Tell your close friends and family that you need their support, and make today day 1.
  • If you do drink, drink in moderation. Two drinks maximum at social functions or get-togethers will help you manage yourself.
  • Educate others about the dangers and consequences. It will keep it fresh in your mind.

Say No to Sugary Cereals

Do you stay at hotels that offer a complimentary continental breakfast? It’s a great and convenient perk to save money and get a good start to your day, but sugary cereals, high-fat breakfast meats and sandwiches, and carb-heavy bagels can wreck havoc to your healthy-eating goals.

Start the day off right by selecting nutritious breakfast choices from the buffet.

  • Look for the protein. Steer away from the pastries, and look for options such as boiled eggs, low-fat milk, and plain yogurt. High-protein foods digest slowly, so you feel fuller longer, and your blood sugar stays even.
  • Choose high fiber. Most packaged cereals are not going to help here, but if you can get plain oatmeal (not the high-sugar instant packets), take it. It’s a great, high-fiber option that will give you sustained energy.
  • Add nutrients. Add whole fruit to your plate, and choose vegetable juice over sugary o.j.
  • Grab and go. If you’re in a hurry to get back on the road, make an egg and cheese sandwich or spread nut butter on whole wheat toast to eat in the car.
  • Pick the right beverages. Instead of gulping down high-sugar juices, drink plenty of water and low-fat milk. You may also want to limit the caffeine and sip on herbal tea rather than coffee.

Whatever you do, don’t skip breakfast. You’ll end up crashing early and will be more likely to make poor eating choices throughout the rest of your day.

Physical Activity Guidelines Based On Your Age

“Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening. Treat it with care.” ~Buddha

How much physical activity do you get each day? What about each week? In order to ensure your continued health long into the future, it’s important that you take time for physical activity each day. Not sure how much you need? We can help! We came across a great resource that outlines the average amount of time you should spend exercising according to your age.

Source: http://www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/everyone/guidelines/

To learn about your age group, we encourage you to click on the image above. Here are a few recommendations for each age group:

6-17 years of age:

  • Children and adolescents should do 60 minutes (1 hour) or more of physical activity each day.
  • Aerobic activity should make up most of your child’s 60 or more minutes of physical activity each day.

18-64 years of age:

  • Adults in this age range need at least 2 hours and 30 minutes (150 minutes) of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week.

65 years of age or older:

  • If you’re 65 years of age or older, are generally fit,  and have no limiting health conditions, you can follow the same guidelines as directly above.
